A Vigil Strange

An optical sound performance developed in collaboration with Giant Axe Field, presented at Centrala as part of Flatpack 12 (2018). Following on from Unwanted Variables, a residency at International New School, Birmingham (2017), this iteration continues an enquiry into the relationships between technical objects, space, audiences, and computer visioning techniques that respond to performers and live sound.

The title draws on an otherly notion of watching, with roots in religious, military and other disciplinary contexts across cultures, resonating with Foucault’s notion of the festival as a coming-together to witness something out of the ordinary.
